
That lone bit of good news is not nearly enough to offset losses across higher education in the nation. Graduate enrollment, though, is a bright spot for colleges, with enrollment up 2.7% in 2020 and 2.1% this year. Nationally, postsecondary enrollment is down 2.6% from last year, while undergraduate is down 3.5% since last year, continuing a decline of 7.8% since 2019.


Accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, college enrollment in Pennsylvania continues to decline as Keystone State schools face an ever-increasing competitive landscape for students.Īccording to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, Pennsylvania’s overall college enrollment fell by 2.1% this fall compared to last fall when enrollment was down 5% from 2019, just before COVID began sweeping across the United States and forcing colleges to move classes online.
